2020 Was a Weird Year
Everyone seems to do a obligatory year in review post, so here is mine. 2020 was a weird year. For myself at least it started off pretty normally. We had a big 20s themed party, everyone had a good night, and everything was decidedly normal. Fast forward a few months and things really started to spiral downwards. Luckily I have been able to work my job remotely, so I was spared a lot of headache other other folks had to endure.
If memory serves me correct, we started work from home in March. Shortly after a state of emergency was put in place. Everything was all pretty up in the air, but I was just able to be a hermit and loaf around. Again, that is a luxury that many, many others didn’t have. The move to remote work also seems to have been quite beneficial to my mental wellbeing. I am less stressed when I get to work from the comfort of my own home. This was made evident when a big grey patch I had growing in my beard completely disappeared. The one thing I was missing was the work gym that I use to keep in some form of shape.
Things seemed to improve come spring and summer. I took on a couple spring projects, including roping my friends into helping me build a deck. I took advantage of the situation and took my lunch break on that deck every day during summer.
Then the fall came, and the virus spread picked up substantially. This was left unchecked by our government, and culminated in the cancelation of Christmas. Winter was very different, and Christmas took place solely over a couple Zoom calls. I have been lucky that my loved ones, and myself, have managed to keep safe and healthy during the pandemic.
The weather was also intense this year. We had a once in a decade hail storm, which caused massive amounts of damage to many houses. During the winter a new single day snowfall record was set as well.
But here we are, we made it through one weird year, and have adjusted to the new normal. As I mentioned many times, I have been lucky to be in the position I am in life. I know many folks have struggled, and I really hope that this can be an opportunity for the growth of various social systems. In 2021 I am looking forward to getting back to some projects I started a while back, including my Gameboy emulator. I am also planning on upgrading my Hugo project setup, but haven’t put too much thought into that yet. I have however taken some time to play with GitHub Actions, and am now using that for the build and deployment of my site.
Stay safe and healthy out there folks.
