Episode Ardyn: Final Fantasy XV's Swan Song

I thought I was done with Final Fantasy XV, but then along comes Episode Ardyn and the PC release. I have jumped back into the world of Eos, and I can honestly say it is a much more pleasant experience on the PC.

First, let’s get the bit about Episode Ardyn out of the way. The final DLC episode feels like the the developers are firing on all cylinders, and is easily the best playing piece of FFXV. The game still has a certain jank to it, but overall it feels a lot better than the preceding content. The episode’s story is serviceable and tries to paint a tragic story for the game’s main villain. My biggest gripe is that the same try-hard metal song plays for basically the entire game. Luckily, at only a couple hours long, the song will hopefully only be ingrained in your memory for a week or so. Overall I would say it is the best expansion the game has, but I wouldn’t pay face value for it.

Perhaps more interesting than Episode Ardyn is the general state of the PC version. It feels pretty good. I have a fair amount of hardware to throw at it, but a solid 60ish fps is possible at 1440p. The ultra wide support seems pretty well done too. The game still can have a few rough edges, but the upgraded resolution and framerate work wonders to resolve a lot of problems I had with the original PS4 release. At its heart it is still the same flawed title, but playing on PC had taken away a little bit of the sour taste I had from my last play session.
